Day 9: Filming, Editing, Narration!
Tuesday July 15, 2014

Content

Part 1 (first 1.5 hours)

We’ll meet in our regular room and talk a little bit about the editing process.

We'll watch this film from the BBC Academy on getting the shots you need. Do you have all of the shots you need to tell your story?

If not, you can go back outside to film some more.

We'll choose our spot based on where people need to walk to on campus (or just outside campus) to do their filming.

You should also take the opportunity to do your reporter's "stand up" if you choose to put one in your film. Here is an awesome example of just how creative you can be with your stand ups!  Are you doing a stand up? It's a great way to be creative!

If we're able, we'll walk over to the Atlas building together to use the newsroom and film news desk spots – an anchor intro and outro for your final projects.

Part 2 (final 1.5 hours)

Class will finish in Edit Bay. We'll upload and continue editing your footage, and learn more tips and tricks for using Premiere efficiently as you work on your final projects.

I'll show you how to do an audio recording in the sound booth, and then how to upload it into your Premiere project.

Homework:

Write a draft outline of your script. It can be a very rough draft, but I need to see something Thursday!

Day 10: Getting final projects in order

Only one more week, guys!  WOW!

First we'll watch what the CU Journalism Summer Intensive kids put together last week: three news packages, each one produced by a pair of students. I worked with the pair that did a news story on "Flipped Classrooms."

Here are their productions: CyberBuffs.com!

For the rest of today we'll be working on your final projects.

- We'll work on your scripts.

- I'll help you all get your films laid out on Premiere.

- We'll go out for the absolute last last LAST time to get more footage!  :)

- I'll answer any questions you have.

Homework:

Everybody needs to come up with FIVE questions to ask at the 9News studio, during and after our tour. These can be questions for the producer, Nicole Vap, who's giving us a tour, about what it's like to be a reporter, or anchor, or other member of production, and what happens in the studio and the news industry. Nicole will probably be able to answer most of our questions, but you may be able to ask them directly to other people we meet on the tour.

If you need to, come work in the Edit Bay to finish your films over the weekend! We'll set hours during class.
